The Segre (Spanish and Catalan: Segre, French: Sègre) is a tributary of the Ebro.
The Segre was known in ancient times to the Greeks and Romans as the Sicoris. The river rises on the Pic del Segre in the French Pyrenees. This mountain is located in the comarca Alta Cerdanya in the old Spanish province of Roussillon, in the current French department of Pyrénées-Orientales.
From the Pic del Segre, the river runs west through the Cerdanya region. At Puigcerdà, the Segre enters Spain and at La Seu d'Urgell, the Valira from Andorra joins the Segre. From here, the river continues south-west through Catalonia. There is a dam near Oliana: the Oliana reservoir (Spanish: embalse de Oliana). At Camarasa, the Noguera Pallaresa flows into the Segre. Then the river flows through Balaguer and at Vilanova de la Barca the Noguera Ribagorçana flows into the Segre. The river continues south-west through Lerida and about 25 km further the Cinca flows into the Segre; With a length of 170 km, it is the longest tributary of the Segre. Finally, at Mequinenza, the Segre flows into the Ebro.
