Volendam Women and Child in Traditional Work and Everyday Dress, c.1900
A charming original 1932 lithograph from *The National Costumes of Holland* depicting a working woman, an elderly knitter, and a young girl in the traditional dress of Volendam. The woman wears the simple workaday costume of the late 19th century, with a bodice of blue cotton patterned in white, a boldly striped wincey skirt, and a heavy striped apron. The little girl dons a brown-patterned frock, a blue and white pinafore, and a multicoloured wool scarf. At right, the older woman knits in a black fisherman’s cap and traditional floral chintz, echoing 19th-century styles. These details reflect the rich visual culture of Volendam, famous among artists and ethnographers.
Condition: Excellent condition with vivid, unfaded colours and crisp detail. Minor edge toning consistent with age, but no tears, stains, or foxing. Paper remains strong and stable.
