Both engravings were made by Lemaitre and published in France around 1850 as part of a visual record of Canadian architecture, industry, and landscapes.
The first print, titled “Fleuve St-Laurent et Village de Cèdres,” depicts the quiet settlement of Cedars along the St. Lawrence River. In the foreground, sailing barges and timber rafts float along the broad river, emphasizing the region’s economic reliance on transportation and logging. The village appears modest and peaceful, with a central church featuring a tall spire and several clustered houses and outbuildings.
