Heart of Jesus Caladium – Original Antique Botanical Print by van Nooten, c.1880
A striking original antique botanical chromolithograph depicting Caladium bicolor Vent., the ornamental Heart of Jesus or Fancy-Leaf Caladium. The plate was painted from nature by Berthe Hoola van Nooten and published in the third edition of Fleurs, Fruits et Feuillages Choisis de la Flore et de la Pomone de l'Ile de Java, issued by G. Severeyns in Brussels around 1880.
This elegant composition illustrates three richly colored caladium leaves with their dramatic crimson centers and deep green margins, accompanied by detailed botanical studies of the flower. The bold foliage creates one of the most decorative and contemporary-looking plates from Hoola van Nooten's celebrated series, making it equally appealing to collectors of botanical art and modern interior designers.
