Antique English Landscape Etchings, Cottage & Trees – Sherlock, 1811
A refined pair of early 19th-century English landscape etchings, delicately rendered and published in 1811, capturing the quiet poetry of the rural countryside.
The first composition presents a tranquil riverside scene framed by a group of windswept trees, their expressive forms reflected in still water. The second depicts a rustic cottage set along a winding country track, animated by dramatic cloud formations and subtle tonal contrasts. Both prints were etched by W. P. Sherlock after designs by D. Cox and C. Barber, artists associated with the English landscape tradition that would later influence figures such as Constable and Turner. Good condition for age. General light toning and minor spotting consistent with early 19th-century paper. Margins slightly irregular with occasional small edge wear. No major tears observed. Plate marks not strongly visible. Overall very presentable.

These prints benefit from wide ivory or off-white mats paired with thin dark walnut or ebonized frames. Hang as a symmetrical pair with moderate spacing to emphasize balance and calm. Works particularly well in studies, hallways, or above consoles in neutral interiors.
