  • Condition: Good, given age. A few spots, mainly in the margins. Text on verso shining through. Light vertical creases right of middle fold. Original middle fold as issued. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.

Description: Antique print, titled: 'Mappa Aestivarum Insularum alias Barmudas dictarum (..).' Sought after map of Bermuda, with decorative cartouche, compass rose, and other embellishments. The map is based upon John Norwood's survey of 1618, as first published by John Speed in 1626-27. The text at the bottom includes a division into lots and tribes and a list of the Proprietors.  The nomenclature is a mix of English and Latin. Source unknown, to be determined.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Henricus Hondius' after an anonymous artist. Henricus Hondius II or Hendrik Hondius the Younger (1597 – 16 August 1651) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer and publisher. He was born in Amsterdam, the son of the famous cartographer Jodocus Hondius who had started a map-making business in the city.
